Polar Plunge raises money for Special Olympics

CEDAR CITY - Nearly 100 people jumped into icy water at the Cedar City Aquatic Center's outdoor pool Saturday during the third annual Polar Plunge.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for the Utah Special Olympics. Bonita Hutchison, the development director for the Utah Special Olympics, estimated that the event brought in $5,000 this year.

Officers arrest burglary suspect

ST. GEORGE - After investigating several reported burglaries of storage units in Beaver and Iron counties, Beaver County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested one suspect at his Cedar City residence Wednesday.

Shon Leavitt, 37, 923 S. 170 West, Cedar City, was charged with four counts of burglary/theft and 16 counts of criminal mischief, said Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel.

Somewhere in an Iron County landfill, buried deep under mountains of malodorous refuse, a veritable forest of marijuana was beginning to rot on Friday.
