PRESS RELEASE: Foot Pursuit & Pipeline drug arrest

On 09-24-17 at approximately 2300 hrs., Deputy Wade Lee from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for speeding (20 over the posted speed limit) near milepost 60 northbound on I15. While talking with the driver, Deputy Lee became suspicious of possible drug trafficking. Cedar City Police responded with a K-9 to conduct a sniff of the vehicle. When the driver and passenger exited the vehicle they fled the scene on foot. They crossed the tall deer fence (about 10 foot high) and disappeared into the neighborhood. A search of the area was conducted by Cedar City Police, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Enoch City Police Department and Utah Highway Patrol, but the subjects could not be located. A citizen alert ( was put out to the area advising citizens of the two subjects. The search continued for approximately three (3) hours.

On 09-25-17 at approximately 0950 hours Cedar City Police received a call about a suspicious person in the area of Bi-Centennial Ball Park. Cedar City Police Officers and Sheriff Deputies responded to the area. They located two males matching the description of the two who had fled from the vehicle. When deputies approached the subjects a foot pursuit ensued. Both subjects were subsequently apprehended.

Roberto Lorenzo-Ruiz 28 yrs of age and Manuel Gallardo 38 were charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs and failure to stop at command of police.

A search of the vehicle had reviled approximately 26 pounds of methamphetamine and 9 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.6 million dollars.
