Officers arrest burglary suspect

ST. GEORGE - After investigating several reported burglaries of storage units in Beaver and Iron counties, Beaver County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested one suspect at his Cedar City residence Wednesday.

Shon Leavitt, 37, 923 S. 170 West, Cedar City, was charged with four counts of burglary/theft and 16 counts of criminal mischief, said Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel.

CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS!

The Iron County Sheriff's Office is requesting information on a wanted subject for mountain cabin burglaries. This subject (described as a 30-year-old six-foot 180 pound male Caucasian with a beard) was last seen wearing a baseball cap, snow boots, snow shoes, green wool or green tight sweatpants, a black slicker or windbreaker coat, and a green colored backpack with the hydration tube system built-in.

New trend in area burglaries

Iron county investigators have discovered concerning trend with area burglaries.

It appears that suspect burglars are using a daytime "knock and announce" approach to their burglaries.

It is evident that suspects are knocking and announcing at the door of the home and if there is no answer, they are committing the burglary.

Somewhere in an Iron County landfill, buried deep under mountains of malodorous refuse, a veritable forest of marijuana was beginning to rot on Friday.
